Watford City High School to Add Boys, Girls Hockey for 2026–27

Watford City High School to add boys and girls hockey for 2026-27

Watford City High School will add boys and girls hockey to its athletics program beginning with the 2026-27 school year.

The new teams will compete under the governance of the Western Dakota Association conference and the North Dakota High School Activities Association.

“We are excited to add boys and girls hockey to our athletic programs,” said WCHS Activities Director Bradley Foss. “Hockey has been part of our community for a long time, and adding this sport to our high school will increase opportunities for our students while strengthening community connections.”

The addition reflects growing interest in hockey across the Watford City community and expands opportunities for students to participate in winter athletics. The move aligns with the McKenzie County Public School District #1's ongoing efforts to provide a broader range of extracurricular options that support student engagement and wellbeing.

“Expanding our athletic offerings to include high school hockey reflects both student interest and long-standing community support for this sport,” said Superintendent Dr. Steve Holen. “We are proud to provide additional extracurricular opportunities for students to get involved, build relationships, and represent Watford City High School in new ways.”

Additional details regarding coaching staff, schedules, and program development will be shared as planning continues ahead of the 2026-27 season.
