K-5 Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program

McKenzie County Public School District #1 participates in a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, thanks to a state-funded grant through the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction. Schools participating include Badlands Elementary and Fox Hills Elementary. Fresh fruits and vegetables are offered as a small sample to all K-5 students. The goal of the FFVP is to introduce children to fresh fruits and vegetables, to include new and different varieties, and to increase overall acceptance and consumption of fresh, unprocessed produce among children.

• Promote wellness
• Change children’s diets to affect their future health

Fruits and vegetables are served weekly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Students will have the choice of fruit or vegetable. Fruits and vegetables will only be served during the school day (i.e., not before school or during after-school programs).
